Card Weaving

***note***: some links to external sites no longer work.

Card weaving is a lot of fun, and relatively easy to do once you have tried it a few times. I've done a few card weaving projects over the last year or so and am hoping to get more practice soon.

Projects

  • Documentation: Medieval Rosary - my first fully documented project! This is the project that I entered in the competition for Baronial Champion--I was selected to be the Baronial Artisan that day! Yay me!
  • Garters - garters were worn to hold up one's stockings in the Middle Ages. This was my first card weaving project.
  • Pelican trim - I wove this trim for a garment I made for my peer. The blood drop theme represents his membership in the Order of the Pelican. This was my first experiment with double-faced weaving.
  • Birka strapwork motif - it took me forever to get this pattern right! I made a lot of mistakes on this practice piece before I actually started doing the turning sequence correctly, but it was worth the hassle. I particularly like this design, and plan on doing some further research on the Birka buriels.
