History

Ross Town was formed in the summer of 1993 following the amalgamation of the town’s two senior teams - Ross United and Woodville. After an initial year of stabilisation the 1994/95 and 1995/96 seasons brought unprecedented success to an area starved of soccer success, enabling the club to take it’s first steps into senior football within the pyramid system.

After having had to play first team home games at Cinderford Town’s ground because facilities in Ross were well below the standards of the Hellenic League, at the beginning of the 2001/02 season the club signed a 30 year lease with the Herefordshire Council for the site at the Ross Sports Centre to develop for its own use.

Although the 2002/3 season was a disaster, with the club finishing bottom and avoiding relegation by the skin of it’s teeth, the 2003/4 season saw a dramatic change. The club finished in second place behind unbeaten Purton. However, Town was denied promotion to the Premier Division as the ground at Ross does not comply with the League grading rule and the costs associated with ground sharing were too high.

The last two seasons have been unsettled ones with personnel coming and going. There have been further upheavals pre season and to the present time. However Ross Town are now looking towards a period of stability and improvement.
