~ The Rose ~ Ken Hirai (Lyrics from Amanda McBroom // credit is shown on credits page)
She used to be an innocent girl who lived by her traditions which was passed down by her family. The girl lived her first ten years as the 'little princess' at her Primary school because she was treated differently by everyone. The teacher thought of her as a person of a high calibre who ranked amongst the intelligent kids in the school and in her area with evidence of specialising in Drama, Art and History. Her best friend, naturally gifted, was one of the few that outsmarted her but she didn't mind since they still remained friends till this day. When it came to that special time of the year, everyone gathered at the assembly hall and listened to her speak of her culture with interest. She was indeed Chinese, and the only one there. Life seemed great for her at first with this kind of attention, being all popular and recognised by the people living in her area but in reality, she was lacking true friends (asides from her best friend).
She was lacking true friends that saw her more than the odd Chinese girl who attended their school, and alot more than a human translator for martial arts movies and swear words that she hated to use. Under the innocence of the girl lied a void in her heart that was waiting to be exposed to the world. The void was temporarily filled with her studious streaks and dedication to reading about History, but still under the servitude of her parents who kept treating her like glass. Things were okay at first since she didn't ask for much but despite her parents' efforts to keep her restrained from the reality that is the world, there was always something troubling her mentally and emotionally.
Despite her grades being amongst the highest at her school, it was her sheer curiosity on life that will soon become her plight. Still one of the few Chinese at her secondary school, she found it difficult to interact with anyone on a deeper, personal level. Whether it was down to some subtle racism or whether it was just her clashing personality…she wasn't too sure. Sure many people seek her advice and wisdom on many things but under the irony that what she uttered was not based on experience but on what she assumed what's right. She has also played the matchmaker on several occasions although she never tried it herself.
'What gives you the right to judge how love is played if you never experienced it?'
No one really asked her that question, nor did anyone answer it. Not even herself who is still plagued with romantic dilemmas. She was the most unlikely person anyone could have envisaged being the emotionless type on romance.
Then at the age of 14, there comes a time when she wished she grew up like the rest, with a case of teenage spots. But instead, she had a case of dermatitis and flared up eczema and her world would be shattered to a million pieces forever. Well…not forever, but it probably felt like it under the mist of school teenage life. She did learn the hard way however, of how naïve she really was for believing she was somewhat significant when all the time they just saw her as an oddity to be reckoned with. They enjoyed her acting skills and respected her wisdom and advice but most never really took her as a friend or more. The girl was just something you see as somewhat interesting at school and nothing more. They were amazed by her vast knowledge in History and some disliked her for being such a dork for the subject she really found interesting.
In some essence, the girl was a good actress who played a good role in being the adorable one of the class. She was able to turn on the waterworks every so often to get the people's attentions. Indeed, she enjoyed watching the people's reactions in whatever she did, especially when she interacted at regular intervals with the opposite sex of her form class. Since primary school, she found better company with the guys who liked her knowledge on games, animes and cars. She already how tomboyish she was but it never really occurred to her how it would affect some of the popular girls who wanted to interact in a different way.
Love was not an agenda on her mind at this point. Crushes are different to love and short lived and she herself only had a few crushes. Romance was definitely not her expertise. So she left secondary school with good decent grades and went to college leaving her childish ragged clothing as well as her acting persona. She's 16 now and life would change perhaps for the worst.
She was maturing too fast that she skipped the university life in her mind at the age of 16. She was remarkably mature for her age with her immaculate behaviour and etiquettes but her new appearance, breaking free from the uniformed black and white was somewhat eccentric. She was the only girl who dared fashioned such a strange punk retro style at her college which soon inspired others to follow her warp trend though nothing compared to her 'Half porcupine style' It was not only her hair that made people look but also her choice of fashion.
Especially with that purple jacket. No one dared copied her jacket because it was her trademark. You know she's around if she wore the purple jacket and you would also be horrified if she did not wear it. Alongside her jacket she was armed with her 'trashed' backpack, full of badges and what not. Probably smelt of cat pee with the look on that backpack but that's not the point. The girl was a unique looking freak of nature and she was darn well proud of it.
However, no matter how recognisable she was and how involved she was to the college through charity work, there was something that she had lacked all the while in spite of everything.
Compassion and Love
