He is a very popular Taiwanese singer // lyricist // composer (and even director for some of his music videos) who is known in many countries in Asia as well as making his mark elsewhere in the world with his acting career. Born in Taipei in 1979, Jay Chou (Chinese name, Chou Jie Lun) has won many awards and is viewed by his peers as one of the best musician to come out of Taiwan in recent years. I can't begin to imagine what his fan folks go through whenever Jay appears. I was going to put Wang Lee Hom in the layout but he's charismatic and a jolly chap from my perspective and I didn't feel green would go well with him when I decided on the final colour to be (I usually make the background and the layout before incorporating the image into the final piece). I'm not saying that Jay is a moping little dude but he's just a shy, gentle and intelligent guy to me but when he does smiles, it's just too adorable and that's one of the message I wanted to get through with this layout. A 'don't judge a book by its cover' thing you could say. But enough about Wang Lee Hom because I could really go on for days, talking about him. Jay although, quiet is very determined when it comes to his work and I find it absolutely amazing by how much he is focused in his extremely tight schedule, juggling between promoting or producing his album and his acting. His voice isn't quite as strong as some of the other Asian musicians in the industry but his voice is quite distinct in a strange kind of way. Other than that, Jay is a private person at heart although the reporters give him a lot of trouble by constantly snooping around for his scraps. This is especially the case whenever an album is due to release or something about his relationships with some of the other artists.
In a strange way, Jay is a lot like the Korean singer K (Kei // Kang Yoon-sung) who usually fits his emotions with the music rather than acting and when he is on live, he is seen as a cheerful friendly guy who is willing to loosen up given the occasion and in that respect that's how I feel about Jay Chou. He can be a sensitive guy at heart and whilst he seems like an apathetic chap at first glance, he is just not that emotional as some people like me. My brother is exactly like that because apparently, the last time he cried was back when he was just a little kid. Knowing somebody with that kind of personality may seem hard to warm up to at first, but in my mind, they're the ones who tend to be more loyal and understanding in a strange kind of way. That's how I see my older brother anyway because he seldom show any type of emotion but it's not as if he is a cold-hearted person. I also chose the layout title 'emotional overdrive' because of the lengthy gap between my next update of this site and the layout and how the layout was finished in a couple of days because I really wanted to get this layout up. I thought I would use a rainbow of colours for this layout but then I thought it would look too 'in your face and blinding' so instead I relied on image positioning to get the message across that Jay Chou conveys his emotions through the power of music (and the fact that he is a composer) in ways that a person would understand why he composed or writes the way he does. I have no idea what I done with the main picture of Jay and all that weird brown-ness but I didn't want it monochrome either because emotions are never black and white.~ Pancakes - 01 // 09 // 06
