Hockey News

CONGRATULATIONS to the Men's "A" team who have secured promotion to Division 1 with a resounding 6-0 thumping of Khalsa "B" at the end of March. With just two matches left to play, they are assured of going up and the question now is whether they can take the division title as well. The senior squad had lost only once so far this season, against Khalsa B in October. They made amends in the return fixture with a superb display at Happy Valley on a muggy Sunday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the Men's "C" team, who had also lost only one game so far, overturned that result when they played host to Valley E and defeated the visitors in a one-sided match. Thanks to their battling spirit and years (decades!) of experience, they have pulled away at the top of Division 4 and it will take a monumental collapse for them not to be crowned champions.

As for the ladies, our "B" team continued their winning ways in the league and should be near the top of the standings. One can only hope that the hockey association is able to update its website before the season ends in May.

Amongst our goal-scorers, Marc Robson has overtaken as pack leader with 18 goals to Andy Kan's 16. With just a few games left to play, it'll be a close and interesting race to the finish.

Congratulations

March 2008 was a wonderful month for three "C" team regulars, and the Newsletter would like to congratulate them accordingly.

Peter da Roza and his lovely wife Sheren are thrilled to announce the birth of their son Ricardo Antonio on the 7th. I personally think Peter made the right choice by not showing up for the match that night, although he was back on the pitch two days later!

This time last year, Dr. Lam Chor Yin was studying in Boston and we missed him the enitre season. All that hard work has paid off, though, as he is now Associate Consultant at Tuen Mun Hospital following his promotion last month.

Also promoted was Mike Franco, a long-serving and long-suffering faithful at Recreio. Up until last month, Mike was Marine Manager at the Hebe Haven Yacht Club. They must have felt he had way too much time on his hands because they decided he'd be better off as their General Manager. Well done, Mike.

If you'd like to send a few kind words (or sarcastic remarks) to any or all of them, do drop a line to recreio_newsletter-at-graffiti.net and we'll pass your message on.
