RECREIO LADIES WIN PLATE

For the third time in four years, Recreio Ladies' "A" have won the plate competition, this time beating Shaheen "B" 4-0.

On a cool, sunny Saturday afternoon at King's Park, Karen Ho opened the scoring in the first half with a solo effort and Andi Lee added two second-half tap-ins before captain Andrea Tang fired in the icing on the cake from the right edge of the dee.

Well done, Ladies.

January Summary

January was the month of knockouts for the ladies, with no league games scheduled. Our "C" had to play off against Valley "D" for a chance to enter the Bowl competition, but did not advance. The "A" and "B" teams were drawn against each other in the 1st round of the Plate, with the senior team going through to the semi-finals where they beat Valley "B" to make it to the Plate final against Shaheen "B" on February 3rd.

Meanwhile, the men's league continued with mixed fortunes. The "A" and "B" teams each had two matches scheduled for the month, and both teams dropped points. The "C" team had a better run of five wins in a row before and after Christmas, but ended the month in a farce when playing a team listed as "B" that was filled with players good enough to be playing at the highest level. I find it sad and disappointing that a club should stoop to using Premier Division level players for a 3rd Division match, but the way the Hockey Association's registration and by-laws are set, this can be done legally.

The bright spot was the return of Andy Kan who missed the beginning of the season through injury. Andy came back to the "C" team at the beginning of December and has scored an average of a goal a game, moving him into the top spot of our goal scorers' chart.
