Ladies' Hockey Congratulations to Recreio's Ladies' "A" who have won the 2nd Division title without losing any league games. The silverware also means promotion to Division One next season. Good luck, ladies.
The achievement is due in large part to the coaching efforts of Mike Franco, who dedicated his time to share his experience with the ladies, and also in making the necessary changes to the team in order to obtain the results. In an email to me, Mike said "So ends a good season for the ladies who will be having a break from all hockey in May and we will start summer training in June".
At the start of the season, the Ladies' "A" took the 11-a-side tournament, setting the tone for the months to come. They also made it to the Plate Final on March 11th, but had to settle for second place. However, the 5-0 scoreline does not truly reflect their match against KCC B as they played their hearts out but didn't take the chances that came their way. The encounter also served as a taste of things to come when they are promoted to Division 1 next season. On top of all this was a second-place finish in the 7-a-side knockout tournament held on April 22nd. Men's Hockey Congratulations to Andy Kan of the Men's "C" team for scoring the most goals this season. Andy had finished in second place two years in a row - first behind Marc Robson, then behind Karen Ho - but his consistency has finally paid off. We hope he will be able to continue to play for Recreio in the coming year.
As for the men's teams in 2006-07, the players themselves will decide what happens. Watch this space. Recreio Centenary Year 2006 marks the 100th anniversary of Club de Recreio in Hong Kong, and the various sections have been celebrating this event over the past few months.
The official anniversary date is November 26th, 2006, and the hockey section is planning to hold its inaugural Centenary Cup competition the day before to mark the occasion.
What we would like to do is to have two of our men's teams and the two ladies' teams invite opponents to challenge for a bowl and plate, with the Cup going to the winner of the match between a Recreio Old & Bold team and a Hockey Association President's XI. This would be a fun match with as many players as desired rolling on and off to enjoy the match.
If the idea is approved, the trophies would be donated to the Hockey Association and be contested in a one-day tournament to be organized by the Association. The More Minchee Hawaii 2006 reunion has been cancelled. Due to the number of people who are unable to make it this year, it has been decided that the event be postponed at least until the summer of 2007.
In the meantime, I am happy the minchee.com website came into being because it has gotten people back in touch with each other. The latest example is Diane Goff, of the Remedios clan. You can click here to read about it. Or, click here for the Minchee home page Abstracts While surfing the Net, I came across some cool abstract pics. Hope you like deviant art. Around Hong Kong part 1 More pics - I was in Sham Shui Po recently and had my camera with me, so I snapped a few shots. Hope you enjoy them.
