Ladies' Hockey Congratulations to Recreio's Ladies' "A" who have won the 2nd Division title without losing any league games. The silverware also means promotion to Division One next season. Good luck, ladies.
The achievement is due in large part to the coaching efforts of Mike Franco, who dedicated his time to share his experience with the ladies, and also in making the necessary changes to the team in order to obtain the results. In an email to me, Mike said "So ends a good season for the ladies who will be having a break from all hockey in May and we will start summer training in June".
At the start of the season, the Ladies' "A" took the 11-a-side tournament, setting the tone for the months to come. They also made it to the Plate Final on March 11th, but had to settle for second place. However, the 5-0 scoreline does not truly reflect their match against KCC B as they played their hearts out but didn't take the chances that came their way. The encounter also served as a taste of things to come when they are promoted to Division 1 next season. On top of all this was a second-place finish in the 7-a-side knockout tournament held on April 22nd.
Men's Hockey
The season started out with high expectations, but is ending on a low note. More than once, the Men's "A" team found themselves short of players, a situation that should never happen in a club such as ours.
The Men's "B" team were also without a full team on several occasions, resulting in a close battle to avoid relegation. Pending the final dsecision by the HKHA on Khalsa B's disqualification from the league, it is possible that we have done enough to avoid the drop.
The Men's "C" team, with a roster of almost 30 players, conceded three consecutive walkovers in the month of April. With all their games now completed, the C's have just about managed to avoid dropping back into the 4th Division. The future of the men's teams may be decided as early as June when player registrations need to be made and the Club considers a number of factors.
