Men's Hockey When the moon is in the seventh house and RibenaŠ is served as wine then peace will guide the planets and hockey at Recreio will be just fine! After starting the month of March strongly with victories over Khalsa "B" in the league and Recreio "C" in the Cup quarter-finals, Recreio "A" stumbled to a 1-1 draw against Islamic before losing their way completely. A 6-1 loss to Recreio "B" was followed two days later by a 6-0 defeat at the hands of KCC B. This is the same KCC B that they will face in the semi-finals of the HKHA Cup competition on April 9th (King's Park 16:30). In contrast, the "B" team won all three of their matches for the month. Apart from the 6-1 success over the "A", there was a 2-1 win against Pakistan Association "B" and 2-0 against HKFC "E". Those victories lifted the B's out of the relegation zone for the first time in months. However, with the suspension of Khalsa B for the rest of the season and the possible voiding of all related results, Recreio "B" could still find themselves demoted at season's end. In the 3rd Division, Recreio "C" gave the impression that they were no longer interested. Apart from the spirited Cup match against their "A" team that could have gone either way, the players struggled with form and lost all their matches. Perhaps it's because there are those who would prefer Division Four hockey next season, or maybe there's a complacency that comes from being in mid-table. Whatever it is, your editor finds it frustrating and boring. This is not the "C" team spirit that we have come to expect from Recreio, so one can only hope that we shrug off this indifference and bring home a few victories in April. One final note for the time being. If you visit our Tables page, you will see that the men's teams are all showing a negative goal difference. The three teams have scored a combined total of 72 goals so far this season and conceded 92! The "C" team has scored the most but also conceded the most; the "B" have scored and conceded the fewest. Ladies' Hockey The Recreio Ladies' "A" made it to the Plate Final on March 11th, but failed to lift the trophy. However, the 5-0 scoreline does not truly reflect their match against KCC B as they played their hearts out but didn't take the chances that came their way. The encounter also served as a taste of things to come when they are promoted to Division 1 next season. Youth Hockey Did you know that Recreio is sponsoring a team in the youth league? Thanks to the efforts of Anna Chu of the Ladies' "B" team and members of the hockey committee, the Recreio youth team finally got to meet their sponsors after one of the men's matches at Recreio.
