RECREIO LADIES STRIKE GOLD
Congratulations to the two ladies' teams for winning their respective knockout competitions and ending the season with some silverware.
The Ladies' A team beat Valley A 3-2 to defend their Plate which they won last year, and were immediately followed by the Ladies' B team who scored a 3-0 victory over Valley D to lift the Bowl.
Candy Cheung gave CDR A the lead when she deflected a free hit into the goal, but Valley came back strongly to go into the break 2-1 up. Chau Wai Po scored a beauty of an equalizer from the left edge of the dee, and Vicky Lai sealed the win with a well-taken penalty stroke after a Valley defender stopped the ball on the line with her foot.
Special mention must go to the Ladies' A Team goalkeeper, Queenie Ho, who pulled off some good saves, including a one-on-one which she smothered.
CDR B then took the pitch and went into an early lead after Wong Ka Lai (a.k.a. Siu Lai, whose last goal was on March 27th, 2004!) scored from a short corner rebound. The Recreio defence had little to do the rest of the half, but the forwards were unable to add to their tally until after the break, when So Wing Yiu (Ah Yiu) collected a loose ball in the dee and tapped it in. Karen Ho, this season's top scorer for the club, added the icing on the cake when she dribbled past two defenders before slotting the ball home off the post.
It has been a most satisfactory season all around, with all five teams finishing in the top three of their respective divisions in the league.
Recreio A scored a 1-0 victory over Valley D in their last league match of the season thanks to Leung Sai to finish on 43 points. They had been in with a chance of promotion to Division 1, but 144U A leapfrogged them, pushing the A's down to third place.
Recreio B took on the gritty Police A and emerged 1-0 winners through Lai Chi Kai, giving them 35 points and third place in Division 3.
In a game where it didn't matter if they won or lost, Recreio C played to a 2-2 draw against strugglers Dragons A, Ricky D scoring a late equalizer with his back to the goal and pushing the ball between his legs. Andy Kan also added to his tally, but he will finish second in the goal scorers' table. The C's finish on 37 points in second place, and are eligible for promotion to Division 2 next season.
Karen Ho of the Ladies' B scored the most league and knockout goals this season, mainly thanks to the six that she put away against DK in the second round of the knockout competition. Marc Robson, last year's runaway goal scorer, finishes in 3rd spot.

Motor Pics
I came across a site featuring dozens of expensive toys on wheels. Darned if I can remember the URL, but I've uploaded a few here in the first of a three-part summer series.
More Minchee
You may recall that a number of former Recreio players and friends gathered in Vancouver in 2003 for a memorial golf tournament for Francis "Gogo" Gomes. That event came to be known as the Minchee gathering.
A second such event, More Minchee, is now being planned for 2006 in Hawaii. Click on "More Minchee" in the External Links below for more details and a bit of fun.
