Recreio Hockey Newsletter - November 2003

The month started with an attempt by the Hong Kong Hockey Association to break the record for the longest hockey match played.

Following an opening ceremony, the match kicked off around 3:00 p.m. on November 1st with two mini hockey teams taking to the field featuring players aged 12 and under. 24 hours and a few minutes later, the record-breaking match ended, and now awaits verification by the Guinness Book of World Records.

Recreio's participation was in the form of a scheduled league match between the Ladies' A and KCC A at HKFC on the evening of the 1st. We congratulate the ladies for being part of this record-breaking event.

Ladies' A

After a slow start to the season where they played just two games in four weeks, the Ladies' A team can finally look forward to a full month of matches, with a game scheduled for each Saturday in November. It's been a shaky start for the senior team, but we hope things will improve as the season progresses. It would help a lot if they had some support, and we hope to see more people showing up at games to cheer their fellow players on.

Match results

The match results can be found on the two fixtures pages, fixtures by team and fixtures by date. Scores and goal-scorers will be listed on these two pages. There is also a separate page listing the goal scorers and the number of goals they have so far scored.

This month, we are adding a table so that we can see at a glance how each of the five teams is doing. The two fixtures pages, scorers, and tables will be updated on a regular basis.

The honour of scoring Recreio's first competitive goal of the season goes to Aloysius Cheung (Cheung tsai) of the Men's C team.

The honour of scoring Recreio's first hat-trick belongs to Marc Robson, also of the Men's C team.

The Lighter Side Of Recreio Hockey

We have included jokes and quotes in this newsletter. Send us your funnies by writing to recreio_newsletter@graffiti.net.

Birthdays

Those who will be celebrating their birthdays or anniversaries in November include:

International hockey in Hong Kong

An international men's hockey tournament was held at the King's Park hockey pitch in Hong Kong in mid-November. Great Britain, Korea, and Japan joined the host team in this quadrangular event. Korea captured the gold, Great Britain won the silver, and Japan took the bronze. Visit the Hong Kong Hockey Association Web site to read all about it.

Women

This item about women was making its rounds via e-mail, so I thought I'd include it here for everyone's enjoyment, especially the ladies.
