Rail Trail The Lowood End |
|
|
The official opening of the railway line to Lowood occurred on 16th June, 1884. The line closed in the 1990s. The old railway station has been restored by the local Lions Club. South-east from the station, at an old underpass, is the Lowood end of the rail trail. In some parts there are two designated paths, one for horse riders and the other for walkers and cyclists. A major change occurred during 2007 and 2008 with a large recycled water pipeline being lain underneath the original rail trail at its western end. This has meant the removal of most railway remnants and the destruction of trestle bridges. To reflect changes made to the trail over time the date of each photograph is attached. |
