biography: Celeste Inęs d'Anconia was born in Lisbon, Portugal, the third daughter for her New Yorker mother Lila and her Portuguese father Francisco. She was raised there until the age of 4 when her parents transplanted Celeste and her 2 older sisters to New York City, where her mother had gotten a professorship at Hunter College on Manhattan's Upper East Side. Celeste's father is a renowned sculptor and owns a gallery in the Chelsea district of Manhattan. The family settled in a 100 year old brownstone on the Upper West Side. Celeste led a fairly normal childhood, not particularly wealthy but comfortable, and was the most studious of her siblings. Education was always important in her family, and the D'Anconia girls always went to the best schools in order to obtain a better education.

Celeste had always been more interested in Science than her other subjects but while attending the Convent of the Sacred Heart in New York she was forced to take part in a school theater production in order to have the credit in order to graduate. She was more comfortable in the science lab than anywhere else but timid Celeste tried her hand at acting. Initially hesitant, she realized that not only did like doing the musical theater production (West Side Story, as Anita) but she was good at it. Celeste spent her remaining years at Dwight taking part in several more school productions, one of which was performed Off-Broadway. During her junior year, she took part in an open-call for a low-budget indie film entitled "The Virgin Suicides". After several call backs and auditions, Celeste landed the provocative role of Lux Lisbon, which forced her once again to go outside her comfort zone. The film did not garner much box-office revenue, but was critically acclaimed with much of the praise directed towards Celeste's performance as the rebellious Lux.

Celeste put her film career aside after her high school graduation and instead chose to go to college. She uprooted herself and moved to California to study Genetic Biology at UC Berkeley. She threw herself into her studies, taking an overload of courses which resulted in her graduating with her B.S. degree in the Winter of 2003. It was then that Celeste decided to try her hand at acting once again, having achieved her goal of a college degree. She auditioned for a black-comedy called "Mean Girls" and won the role of protagonist Cady Heron. The film was a box-office smash and officially launched Celeste D'Anconia into young Hollywood royalty. She won her first Oscar for her portrayal of the stripper Alice in the film "Closer" and was launched into mainstream media with her role as the vampire Alice Cullen in the "Twilight" franchise.

Celeste currently resides in California with her dog Flex and her cat Dinah but owns an apartment in New York City as is currently looking at real estate in Spain.
